RELIEF: GOVERNMENT EXTENDS APPLICATION FOR STUDENT LOAN SCHEME

Government has extended the application for the student loan scheme. This is the second time the applications have being extended to give chance to students who have not yet applied.

A statement from the Higher Education Students Finance Board says that the deadline has been further extended from the 31st of August to 30th September for under graduate students and 13th October for under graduate diploma.

The board says that most universities have not yet released admission letters to students and a result they cannot apply for the loans before being admitted.

Most universities are up to date yet to release their lists of the students due to the difficulties cause by the covid19 pandemic.
The loan scheme is a government initiative to equip Ugandans with education at a higher level including a degree and diploma undergraduate level in the fulfilment of the right to education as stated under chapter 4, article 30 of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

The main objective of this initiative is to increase equitable access to higher Education in Uganda and support qualified, brilliant but needy students who may not afford the cost of Higher Education. These students are obligated to commence payment of the loan one year after completion of their studies.
