SENIOR CITIZENS CRY OUT FOR HELP.


Senior citizens under the National Council for older persons are asking Parliament to first track the passing of the older persons bill of 2019 before the 2021 polls.


The call is made by the council chairperson Canon Jorum Tibasimwa as Uganda today commemorates the International Day of Older Persons.
Canon Tibasimwa also appeals to the Electoral Commission to ensure that older persons are not left out in electoral processes ahead of the general elections next year.

“We need special and specific strategies of interventions to support old persons who are most vulnerable in fighting the pandemic.

We call upon government with all stake holders and people of good will to support interventions to protect old persons against this pandemic.


We request government to first track the older persons bill so that for the 2021 general elections this law would enhance the realizeion of old persons rights.”

This year’s commemoration is to be held virtually at State House Entebbe with President Museveni as the chief Guest and the day is marked under the theme “UPHOLDING THE RIGHTS OF OLDER PERSONS DURING COVID19 PANDEMIC, A CALL FOR ACTION.”
